Shame on Burwood Council. Many of us try to park to work at OTEN College of TAFE at Strathfield but are restricted to running out and changing meters every 2 hours (costing around $24 for the day). If there are a few spaces left in the TAFE car park and they open the gates at 10.30 am for these people queue orderly to get into these parks then parking police come and move people on so they have to drive around in circles for 15 minutes!! It is quite bizarre as there are many empty parks available on the street but people can't afford the $25 to park each day ($125 per week!!!). One man got 3 parking fines in a week and others are considering resigning as the Council has made it impossible to park for work. Some come long distances from where the train is not available. Burwood Council will not listen to people to try to find a reasonable solution and should be voted out !!!

Kogarah council is a joke, they have parking officers more than parking spots. An officer even manufactured parking fines to get promoted at his job. Shame on you and kogarah council for being so low.

totally agree. anytime after 6am forget about finding any parking in sydney metro. your only option to CBD is to take a car and it can cost hundred dollars if you don't have free parking in CBD. taking a bus to station makes the trip over 2 hrs.

I tried to park and ride today with NO SUCCESS. Attempting to ease congestion in the Sydney CBD (not forgetting helping the environment). I decided to park at Gordon (Wade Lane) from the information I received of a council ranger this particular parking facility was 24 hr and free. Upon arrival there was no signs about the parking just a complex covered with graffiti and 2 vagrants camping within. After completing my regular 12 hour shift which earns me less then 220 dollars I returned to my vehicle to find an 86 dollar infringement notice on the windscreen. Now I will continue to drive my large family car to work and utilize my free parking there. Taking the car is actually cheaper then the train fare and driving saved me 30 minutes on the way to work but costs 10 minutes on the way home. I wish the governing officials would WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROSES and fix the problems and stop lining there own pockets. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Parking at any major station would be great. I would park at Lidcombe or Strathfield station and catch the train to Wynyard had there been any all-day parking available near by (~2 minutes walk), it's appalling to see most of the empty streets near by with 2 hour parking limit, what's the use of that? you're just making things worse and gaining nothing but maybe some small income from parking fines here and there, maybe local councils don't care but cityrail could be making multi-million dollar higher profits if there were more available parking near their stations. I don't mind trains being slow if there's good parking available. On average, you'd spend about 15-20(or more) minutes looking for parking, plus another 10 minutes waiting for the train and then add that the trains are slow and some of them aren't even express trains to the city, you're in a long ride to work every single damn day, this doesn't appeal to the average 9 to 5 city worker, that just means that more people will just drive to work congesting overall traffic during peak hours.

Alternatively cycle to the station on a folding bike and take it with you on the train so you can use it at the other end? Once you've tried it I doubt you'll want to go back as the easy of use is phenomenal.

As for the notion of taking a bus to the station instead of parking... forget about purchasing a multi-trip ticket from Cityrail if you live in my area (Baulkham Hills). Hillsbus does not take these tickets and so it's another $4 each way just to get to the station! There really needs to be a central entity controlling all of these transport services, not just helter-skelter companies doing whatever they want. What is this, the United states?

Yes provision of commuter parking would surely be more convenient. However for parramatta, strathfield, hornsby and bankstown there is no need for commuter parking. They are all well serviced by buses. What needs to be done is develop a system of bus networks servicing local areas just like the above stations so there is no need for commuter parking.

It would be difficult to provide commuter parking given the constraints local councils face such as land and costs. If you want to park at strathfield station feel free to park at strathfield plaza and pay for the parking costs.
